Piercing Aftercare

Irrigate

Spray the entry and exit points of the piercing with sterile saline solution (like NeilMed Piercing Aftercare) twice daily. Do not remove the jewelry during cleaning. Do not twist the jewelry. Removing and twisting can cause a longer heal time or create other issues.

Drying

Gently pat the area dry with clean, disposable paper towel. Alternatively, use a hair dryer on the cool setting to avoid snagging. Avoid cloth towels as they can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry.

Non-Interference

Do not rotate, twist, or play with the jewelry. Avoid using alcohols, peroxides, or ointments which can delay the healing process and cause irritation bumps. Do not sleep on your new piercing. Added pressure can irritate your new piercing.

Tattoo Aftercare

REGULAR VS SECOND SKIN

If regular aftercare use lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antimicrobial soap to gently remove any plasma or excess ink after 2 hours or when you get home. If we used second skin, leave your tattoo alone for 4-5 days. Take showers as normal.

MOISTURIZING

If regular aftercare: use unscented lotion twice a day - if shiny on your skin it is too much. This should be done for about a month. Do not pick at the tattoo or sun tan for a month. If second skin after the 4th or 5th day use unscented lotion twice a day as described above.

Healing FAQ

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

Surface healing typically takes 2–3 weeks, while deeper layers can take up to 1 month to fully settle. Consistent aftercare is key during the first 14 days.

What are the signs of a piercing infection?

Look for extreme redness that spreads, intense heat, persistent throbbing, or thick green/yellow discharge. Slight swelling and clear fluid are normal during initial healing.

Can I swim with a new tattoo or piercing?

No. You should avoid pools, hot tubs, lakes, and oceans for at least 3-4 weeks to prevent infection and irritation from bacteria or chemicals.

Is it normal for my new piercing to itch?

Yes, itching is a common sign that the skin is regenerating. Avoid scratching; instead, keep it clean with saline as directed.
